The Bath: Fixation is a multi-channel, real-time video and sound performance, and the first installment in an ongoing series that uses custom algorithms to model different states of my psyche — this one centered on obsession. Hi8 tape footage of personal milestones from the past year, treated as affective, archival material, is fed through a modified security algorithm repurposed as a stand-in for that state: the longer a face lingers in frame, the longer an emotion is held, the higher the system's "fixation" value climbs. Built in Max MSP and Ableton and routed over OSC, that value drives abstract video synthesis projected from the ceiling onto me, where I play the sound and video live, bathing in my own emotions, the output of my surveilled memory.
